Pacific Printing Industries Announces 2018 Student Poster Competition Winners

Portland, OR – Pacific Printing Industries Association (PPI) awarded $1700 in student scholarship prizes this year

in their ExploreVizComm student poster competition. This annual competition provides a unique opportunity for high school and college students to showcase their print design skills. With more than one hundred entries and many outstanding creative designs, the selection process this year was highly competitive.

The first-place winner in the college entry category was Kennedy Pew, a graduating senior at North Idaho College. “The world of print is vast, and there is so much to be discovered within it.” Said Pew, “…and so I played with the idea of discovering a beautiful relic of a lost civilization hidden deep in the middle of the jungle.”

The first-place winner for the high school entry category was Samantha Bowne, a graduating senior at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. “…I’m inspired by many comic artists and illustrators.” Said Bowne, “I watched several videos on this site, [] and I thought that some sort of sequential or paneled composition would best illustrate the various opportunities it offered.”

Kristin Baldwin, PPI Executive Director expressed her joy at seeing the amount of entries and creativity. “I was so pleased to see the number of entries and the quality of entries in this year’s poster contest! It was both impressive and inspiring to see the talent coming out of our region’s educational institutions. Print as an industry is continuing to grow and change and will need the talent graduating from these schools.”

ExploreVizComm, a program funded by the non-profit Educational Trust of PPI runs the student poster contest. In 2019, students participated from the states of Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Next year, the ExploreVizComm student poster contest will run January 21st-April 8th. All 2019 poster contest entries can be viewed on the website, and top winners will be included in a calendar that will be available for purchase in the summer of 2019 on
